This was the weekend of the ‘Homegrown’ flying event held in Wales. A fantastic couple of days with flying at Bach Hill close by. The first day was strong and at times I was pretty much ‘gale hanging for an hour.

Flying today at Bach was very different with light wind. Due to the top being pretty crowded I launched further down the hill and spent the best part of 3 hours scratching around. I Had an incident in a thermal whereas during a 360 turn, my path was blocked by another pilot entering the thermal and I ended up heading straight into the hill. I struck the hill at a fairly shallow angle and skidded on my bum through soft heather which resulted in a graze on my nose and I was lucky it wasn’t worse. As time went by though the wind started to drop and in a vain attempt to get over a fence whilst scratching close to the hill I ended up crashing into it! Video here:
Again lucky to get away with nothing but a dented pride but it did make me realise I had to smarten up on my flying and not take chances.
